Business Case: "How do we select the ideal Business Intelligence tool?"
Overview: PEW will look at enterprise BI Suites, query and reporting
tools, OLAP and BI platforms for developing BI applications.
Benefits: protect the magnitude of the financial investment, eliminate
disappointments with previous package implementations, build consensus
among business units, provide product awareness and manage the
different software vendors. Typical BI vendors include Business
Objects, Cognos, Hyperion, Information Builders, Microsoft,
MicroStrategy, Oracle and SAS. Examples of selection criteria are
scalability, usability manageability modern platform architecture,
third-party extensibility, vendor support programs, critical market
expansiveness, BI features.
Outcome: Develop process flows (optional), refine baseline
functionality matrix (optional), review client technical environment,
conduct vendor technical sessions, develop request for information
(RFI), narrow to short list, develop demonstration scenarios, conduct
due diligence, prepare for vendor visits, conduct vendor
demonstrations, develop project team recommendation, refine business
case, executive presentation.
