Functionality Matrix
Business Case: "What functionality is required to meet our business process objectives?"
Overview: The major functional
areas of the desired solution will be listed in the first column. Each
functional area will be decomposed along a row. Prioritisation will be
addressed via business benefits, technical complexity and
organizational readiness. The team will analyse each cell for its
importance to the application from all 3 perspectives by using the
rating system high, medium and low. Prioritisation will be reflected in
a North West - South East orientation. Shading will indicate phasing
for implementing the desired solution.
Benefits: The functional matrix
mapping is a structured approach to organize and prioritise functions
by the two dimensions importance and complexity. This approach will
enable a synthetic view of each functionality by using the three
filters business benefits, organizational readiness and technical
complexity. The business benefit will utilize the critical success
factors and benefits from the business case to each cell in the matrix.
The organizational readiness will address people and process issues,
impact on technical infrastructure and working environment. The
technical complexity will eventually be used as the input for defining
the costs for delivering the functionalities.
Outcome: Exact Scope.
